The Original Rolex Timepiece That I Acquired

I remember the summer of 1970 very well. I was fourteen years old. It was the year that Rolex watches entered my life. Most importantly it was the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona which was top of my list, but it was the Submariner that ended up on my wrist. I don’t why it was luxury watches that began to fascinate me so much but as they did I quickly realized that Rolex was at the pinnacle of my expectations. I learned from friends, movies, magazines and my father all I needed to know about Rolex watches. Then it became my mission to acquire one myself. I had never before in my life had this concrete a goal away from school. But as the summer approached I knew I would have to find a way to earn enough money to buy my own Rolex. I wanted the Cosmograph Daytona because Paul Newman had worn one in a movie. I didn’t know which movie but the rumor (which is true) would have been good enough for me. As I did my research, which was harder without the internet, I realized they were more expensive so I concentrated my efforts on the famous Rolex Submariner. James Bond wore one of these in a movie too. I was able to secure a position at the local country club as caddie on the golf course. What a great summer and great coming of age experience it was. This was my first time working hard enough to gain some muscle and it was the first time I knew what it meant to save money for a particular goal. No soda after work with the other caddies, I knew how much I needed and was going to make sure to save enough. That Rolex was already paying dividends in my life and I had yet to buy one. Sure enough, I saved the $125.00 I needed for the watch and went to the local Rolex to make my purchase. My Dad could not have happier or prouder than if he was buying the Submariner himself. He knew my commitment and was thrilled to share the end result. It was a great summer and a great moment – I remember almost forty years later. That Rolex Submariner is still my favorite watch even as I have been able to buy my coveted Cosmograph Daytona and a Yachtmaster as well.

Difficulty Sleeping Tip #1

Caffeine is only your friend during the morning hours. Even though you might not think that caffeine affects you very much, it does play a big part in your body's ability to settle down and rest at the end of the day. If you must have coffee, switch to decaf after lunch. Caffeine can affect your body for up to eight hours. The longer it has to leave your system the less likely it is to affect your sleeping habits.

Difficulty Sleeping Tip #2

Exercise will not wear you out; it will actually pump you up. Exercise actually gives people energy. While you might feel tired immediately after a workout, your body will not sleep well if you try to do your workout right before bed. It is also bad for your body as a rule to go from lots of motion to staying still. This is why there are warm ups and cool downs before and after exercise workouts.

Difficulty Sleeping Tip #3

While many of us may fall asleep while watching television, if you are having sleeping problems, you want to give yourself at least an hour before going to bed that is television free. Television is a stimulant for your brain (even if the material is not particularly scholarly in content). Watching it right before bed keeps you awake and it takes a while for your brain to wind down after you turn the television off.
